City of Lampasas Hostess House Renovations

Lampasas, Texas

Brief

Overview

Set amidst the spring-fed waters of Hancock Springs, Sulphur Creek, and the surrounding parkland, Lampasas’ Historic Hostess House is more than just a community venue—it’s a cherished local landmark. In 2021, the City of Lampasas selected Reliance Architecture to serve as design lead for the sensitive renovation and expansion of this beloved gathering space. Our goal: to preserve its historic charm while enhancing functionality for today’s events and tomorrow’s legacy.

Originally built as a two-story limestone bathhouse and reception hall with sweeping porches and a picturesque setting, the Hostess House plays a central role in community life—hosting weddings, reunions, meetings, and celebrations of every kind. Through a careful study of the building’s use patterns and existing conditions, including 3D scans, field investigations, and digital documentation, we identified key opportunities to improve accessibility, circulation, food service, and long-term durability.

Working closely with city leadership and community stakeholders, we designed a set of discreet yet impactful additions and upgrades that improve flow between the central hall and kitchen, enhance back-of-house support for events, and improve ADA access. These updates respect the building’s proportions and historic fabric while extending its usefulness for the next generation.

Construction began in July 2024 and was completed in August 2025. As stewards of this civic icon, we are proud to contribute to its ongoing story and honored to help preserve its role at the heart of Lampasas community life.
