"Antonio listened to our concerns and effectively captured our vision into the design."
Delores Warnell
Frm. Superintendent, Bloomington ISD
As part of its 2022 Bond Program, Pflugerville ISD initiated a district-wide playground renovation program to improve aging outdoor play environments across multiple elementary campuses. Reliance Architecture partnered with Playwell to conduct a comprehensive assessment of existing playground conditions, including play equipment, protective surfacing, shade structures, site constraints, and overall campus needs.
The findings were compiled into a detailed report documenting existing conditions, identifying priorities, and providing the District with a phased implementation plan. This process allowed PfISD to evaluate playground needs across the district as a whole, establish consistent improvement standards, and strategically allocate bond funding to the campuses and components requiring the greatest attention.
The resulting renovations included the replacement of playground equipment, impact-attenuating surfacing, and shade canopies. Improvements were planned to create safer, more functional, and more engaging outdoor environments while responding to the individual conditions and available space at each campus. Equipment layouts and play opportunities were carefully coordinated with circulation, fall zones, existing site features, and campus operations. The resulting renovations included the replacement of playground equipment, impact-attenuating surfacing, and shade canopies. Completed through multiple phases, the program provided PfISD with a repeatable framework for renewing its playgrounds while addressing immediate deficiencies and supporting long-term maintenance and replacement planning. Together, the improvements revitalized outdoor play spaces across the District and created durable, welcoming environments that support recreation, movement, social interaction, and the daily wellbeing of students.
