Thrall ISD High School Addition

Brief

Overview

In 2025, Thrall ISD opened the doors to a major addition at Thrall High School, an expansion designed not just to increase capacity, but to expand opportunity.

Originally designed by Clifton Stuckey during his time with Fromberg Associates, the high school’s next chapter came full circle with this addition, focused on enriching Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings and enhancing core academic and support spaces. The project doubled the number of classrooms on campus and brought the district’s long-term vision into sharp focus: offering students meaningful, modern pathways toward future careers.

The new wing includes:
A flexible CTE shop addition
A combined Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) / Child Development lab
A Business classroom and a Marketing lab with computers and light maker-space tools
A Life Skills suite with kitchen, laundry, and adaptive PE space
A repurposed Computer Science / Yearbook lab
Four new English Language Arts classrooms
An open-concept media center surrounded by ELA classrooms, forming a cohesive humanities pod
Two flexible-use annexes for quiet study, collaboration, or testing
A student-run spirit store—Practically Purple—as part of the district’s entrepreneurship program
A reimagined courtyard offering shaded outdoor learning, gardening, and dining spaces

Key design priorities included program adjacency and long-term adaptability. The ELA classrooms wrap around a daylit media center, creating a central hub that supports both independent reading and group engagement. Each CTE lab was planned with future program growth in mind, ensuring that the building can evolve as student interests and industry demands shift.

Reliance Architecture provided bond planning, design, and construction administration for the project, which opened on schedule for the Spring 2025 semester.

The result is a high school addition that doesn’t just serve students, it sets them up to succeed.
