Thrall ISD Weight Facility

Brief

Overview

Positioned at the south end of the football field and completed in Summer 2023, the 8,500-square-foot weight room at Thrall High School is a dynamic facility designed to elevate athletic performance, unify program identity, and reflect the fighting spirit of the Tigers.

This addition isn’t just a gym, it’s a visual and functional anchor to the athletic complex, with a direct sightline from the weight floor to the football field itself. The design draws on existing campus aesthetics, including a bold purple EIFS element carried over from the adjacent Thrall High School gymnasium. Those district colors carry through to the interior as well, where custom rubber flooring features Tiger logos and a central artificial turf zone supports multi-use training and mobility work.

Inside, the facility offers an open-plan training area, a team meeting room, and adjacent training spaces, all designed for flexibility as the program grows. Large storefront windows and operable windowed overhead doors bring daylight into the space and provide a physical and emotional connection to the field, bridging preparation and performance in a single glance.

Beyond the athletic program, the building plays a broader role in community pride and student empowerment. It serves as a daily home base for strength and conditioning, physical education, and team-building. “The compliments that I am receiving from all that view [the building] are directly reflecting on all parties involved,” said Barry Clark, Site Superintendent with Chaney-Cox Construction. “It’s one of the most eye-pleasing buildings I’ve worked on in my career.”

Designed by Reliance Architecture, the project was led by architect Clifton Stuckey, with support from Saraya Saadat and interior designer Taylor Perez. Construction was completed by Chaney-Cox Construction.

Together, the team delivered a building that is bold, efficient, and distinctly Thrall—a facility that doesn’t just support training, but also inspires it.
