Wichita Falls - Wichita County Health District Addition

Owner: Wichita Falls – Wichita County Health District
Completion: Summer 2006
Building Area: 9,300 square feet

The Wichita Falls – Wichita County Health District serves the Wichita County area and provides a clinic for low income patients. In 2005 the health district decided to add additional clinic space as well as dental services to better serve the community. The new clinic space was an addition to their late 1960s building that sits on the Wichita River.

The steeply sloping site provided some design challenges to maintain patient access and mobility. I attempted to use these challenges as an opportunity to introduce interesting elements into the design to connect the aesthetics of the building with its surroundings. The original late 1960s building had a distinct entry design, which I attempted to respect and modernize with the addition of colored hipped roofs, providing both an airlock for environmental controls as well as added color for improved wayfinding.

The clinic is home to two waiting rooms – one specifically for higher risk patients – 9 exam rooms and two dental suites, as well as clinic offices and a large conference room.

This project was completed by Clifton Stuckey while working at Bundy, Young, Sims & Potter in Wichita Falls, Texas.
